Making Biolab Chronicles Part 9

Chad
Introducing Chad. Janitor at Quinford Laboratories.

So the first concept art was made today courtesy of our fantastic artist. this will be the first character in our motion comic cut scenes i am waiting on a few more pages of the comic so that i can begin work on the motion cut scenes for the game. If you’ve ever played Infamous you’ll know what i mean

Making Biolab Chronicles Part 8

Version 0.09 – Things that fly above your guy

I’ve contracted a professional writer to begin working on the story for the game this is based on ideas and thoughts that came out of a multi-hour long brainstorming session had at 2am on a worknight…. and you can rest assured its going to be great im planning for roughly 2 – 3 hours of game play with another 20 minutes of cut scene time added on top of that. The book i’m having written will be 7 chapters long each chapter referring to a point in the game play.

So regarding these so called cut scenes, each part of the story will contain a short introduction these introductions are being turned into comic strips at ultra high resolution by a fantastically talented artist who specializes in horror imagery one this  is completed i will be animating the comic slides using some nice software and finally the comic strip dialog will be provisionally recorded in my home studio by some talented voice actors. So hopefully in the coming weeks i will have something to show you guys!

Speaking of changes in the video above i have added a new layer to the engine that automatically z generates shadows and orders its self to give a nice illusion of depth in the maps hopefully i can use this to bring another level of depth to the engine.

HTML5 Canvas 2D Tile Engine

image

So guys, this is a little photo of my tile engine written with HTML5 and Javascript as you can see above it ran my simple game a homage to Pokemon red and blue at a solid 60fps vsync on a few devices.

The map was designed in the Map Editor Tiled and saved to xml. this xml file was run through an XML to JSON converted that i had previously built in .net and the resulting JSON was loaded into an object this allowed for a really simplistic way to load and save custom maps into the engine without the need for designing and writing another map format.

Platformer

So this is just a quick screenshot of a platformer game i whipped up as a demo.

Currently it has colliding blocks, basic physics, double jumping, and moving platforms which to my surprise were a lot harder to implement than i thought it would be.

This will be the basis of my next game about death in as many ways as possible while trying to reach a goal after Biolab Chronicles is finished.
