The problem
I’ve been a victim of the failed updates mid December back in 2013. I updated my Surface Pro 2 expecting a plethora of fixes and new features only to be plagued for over a month with terrible battery life and incorrect battery percentage status.
I’ve been woken up at 4am to be greeted by my shiny glowing Surface Pro 2 sitting there, staring at me displaying its login screen. I don’t know why but ever since I updated on that faithful day back in December its been doing completely weird stuff.
Microsoft’s Resolution
When I woke up on the 14th of January, I was pleasantly surprised to see that lovely notification “windows is going to close all my shit and update while I’m working on important documents tomorrow!!” Yay me, I was thinking so I let it do its thing and update its self, I even read through the update notes but there wasn’t anything relating to battery issues and random 4 am visits from the login fairy.
Later during the day I noticed the surface still doing its weird ritual to the power theft gods turning on and off… telling me it has 0% battery life despite being plugged in and used without the power tether for over an hour.
It was at this point that I started to do some research I found a few nice pages from Microsoft supporting the surface pro 2 but nothing useful that was until….
The Solution
I found a blog Link Here who suggested powering off the device holding volume up and power for 15 seconds lots of commenter’s suggested that this method worked for them.
I followed the steps outlined and found that my device was fixed! thanks a lot Microsoft for supporting and taking care of surface pro 2 users during this holiday season turns out the fix was just a little up up down down left right left right a b select start magic!
